KINGSVILLE, TX – Leonard A. Bedell, a senior business executive in Houston, has joined the Board of Trustees of Texas A&M University-Kingsville Foundation and been elected to serve as its Treasurer.
Bedell graduated from Texas A&I University in 1968 after earning a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a major in accounting and was recruited and joined the Houston Office of the international firm of Arthur Andersen, LLP. His career has spanned the fields of public accounting, management consulting and finance; and also included senior management positions in public and private firms specializing in food distribution, financial services, transportation, manufacturing, construction of commercial and residential projects, technology manufacturing, and medical waste management.
He is currently President, CEO and a board member of Mobil Steel International, Inc., a 40 year-old industrial steel fabrication business serving the petrochemical, refining, power and energy industries. Bedell has also served on the Board of Directors of Live Oak Consulting, American Medical Technologies, Tidel Technologies, MedCon, and 3CI Complete Compliance Corporation where he also served on the Audit and Compensation Committees. Bedell actively maintains his Certified Public Accountant certification.
Bedell has been active throughout his career in serving his community and profession in various organizations. After serving for over two decades on the Boys and Girls Country of Houston Board, he is currently an honorary life member of that board. He has also served several tenures on the Board of Trustees of Chapelwood United Methodist Church where he has served on the finance committee, building committee, and Treasurer; and previously served as director of Good Neighbor Healthcare Center. He has also been president of the Texas A&I Alumni Association and served on the alumni association board of directors, is a member of the Texas A&M UniversityKingsville College of Business Administration Advisory Board, and has served on numerous community and professional organization committees and special project groups.
Other professional memberships include the American Institute of Steel Construction, Associated Builders and Contractors where he is a member of the Industrial and PAC Committees, Houston Entrepreneurs Forum, Financial Executives International, Vistage International, Association for Corporate Growth, American Institute & Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants, Javelina Alumni Association Lifetime Century Club, Texas A&M-Kingsville President’s Circle, Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo (Lifetime Member), Coastal Conservation Association (Lifetime Member), and 100 Club of Houston (Lifetime Member).
Bedell was raised in South Texas, attended public school in Corpus Christi; is married, has four children and seven grandchildren.
Texas A&M University-Kingsville Foundation is the non-profit corporation established in 1972 for the purpose of supporting Texas A&M University-Kingsville. The Foundation Board of Trustees is composed of up to 21 members who assist in fundraising, investment and management of donations to support more 100 programs and scholarships at the university. The position of Treasurer was created in August 2008 and Bedell was elected to the Board of Trustees and the treasurer’s position November 14, 2008.
