HOUSTON (June 21, 2018) – Mobil Steel International, Inc. recorded more than two years working safely without suffering an OSHA recordable injury – a workplace injury or illness that would require medical attention. Medical treatment which would create an OSHA recordable work injury can be as simple as prescription medicine. All OSHA recordable injuries must be recorded in an official Occupational Safety and Health Administration log and reported to the safety and health administration.
Throughout the two-year OSHA recordable safety streak Mobil Steel management rewarded employees quarterly and annually for safety performance. Mobil Steel employees will officially celebrate the two-year safety milestone during a July 4th lunch served in the steel fabrication shop.
“Our employees are delivering on the promise of a safe and healthy workplace by improving safety performance whether it is an OSHA recordable milestone or recognition for safety and training programs,” said Leonard A. Bedell, President and CEO of Mobil Steel.
Mobil Steel lowered its experience modification rate (EMR) to 0.79, well below the national average of 1.0. The EMR is used by insurance companies to gauge past safety performance and future risk of injuries. Later this summer, Mobil Steel is expected to be recognized for its third consecutive year of improvement in the Associated Builders and Contractors national Safety Training and Evaluation Process.
“I am proud that our employees reached this significant OSHA recordable milestone,” said Bedell. “Yet, I am most pleased that our employees have developed a culture of safety performance that has resulted in our employees working more than two consecutive years without being injured or becoming ill from a workplace accident.”
