HOUSTON (January 28, 2011) – Mobil Steel International, Inc. and its employees continue to invest in the community and help area neighbors through participation and donations to local charities.
In October, Mobil Steel’s HR manager, Sheri Henry, and a team of walkers associated with Pasadena ISD raised more than $60,000 for the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. Henry surpassed her goal of $500 in contributions by more than 50 percent. Mobil Steel and some of its owners matched Henry’s contributions.
The Komen Houston Race for the Cure® raises money to fund education, screening and treatment programs in our community and supports national cutting-edge research in hopes of finding the cures. In addition, the Race celebrates breast cancer survivorship and honors those who have lost their battle with the disease.
Recently, Mobil Steel contributed its fifth consecutive donation to Sagemont Church’s Helping Hands ministry. In 2005 Mobil Steel offered its first company contribution to Helping Hands. At least seven Mobil Steel employees now supplement the annual company gift with their own personal contributions.
Sagemont Church’s Helping Hands provides a source of assistance to people experiencing tough times. The program reaches out to senior citizens and shut-ins with support programs such as assistance with roof repairs, meals or shopping. Helping Hands ministry also helps with faith development and provides job placement opportunities. In fact, several Mobil Steel employees joined the company through the placement program.
Mobil Steel Employees Support Community Projects
Mobil Steel actively participates in annual fundraiser for Boys and Girls Country. Boys and Girls Country is a Christian Home, providing children from families in crisis with love, security, a sense of self-worth, and opportunities to prepare them for a successful life.
In July, Mobil Steel employees participated with Associated Builders and Contractors of Greater Houston to renovate a shelter for homeless women. Mobil Steel joined more than 100 suppliers, contractors and builders of ABC Houston who put their talents and skills to work repairing the Faith House at Eagle’s Lift Ministries. The two-story house serves as a safe and secure home environment for abandoned, pregnant or abused young women.
“Mobil Steel has been blessed with outstanding employees, great customers and wonderful vendors. We are pleased to give back some of our blessings to our community,” said Leonard A. Bedell, president and CEO of Mobil Steel. “We are happy to support our employees’ volunteer efforts in the community whether through little league sponsorships or contributions to events that raise money for outstanding community causes.”
Other charitable programs supported by Mobil Steel and its employees are the Special Olympics, Space City Cruisers (in association with the Lions Club), ABC Scholarship Fund, and the Financial Executives International (FEI) Houston Chapter Scholarship Fund.
“It is personally satisfying to use our resources and talent to help people in our community, as well as to support our employees’ efforts in the community,” Bedell added. “It is truly fulfilling when you can complete the cycle of assistance by financially helping to sustain a program like Helping Hands or Boys and Girls Country and then receive the benefit of hiring good employees who have been helped and prepared for the workplace by such a faith-based program.”
