HOUSTON (September 24, 2010) –Mobil Steel International, Inc., joined steelfabricators, architects, engineers, and contractors across the U.S. celebrating the second annual SteelDay on September24. SteelDay activities focused on the benefits of structural steel design, fabrication and construction, and promoted careers in the steel industry.
Mobil Steel employees took time out of their work day at the 80,000 square foot, sixfabrication bay facility to reflect and celebrate the steel fabrication company’s role in building America’s infrastructure. Structural steel fabrication is a critical component of the construction industry and important to efforts to rebuild America’s economy.
Mobil Steel’s celebration was one of nearly 200 events held throughout the U.S. SteelDay 2010, hosted by the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC), is the second annual national event showcasing how the structural steel industry contributes to build America. Last year SteelDay events were held at more than 170 different locations all over the country.
“Mobil Steel is very proud to be a successful member of the structural steel industry and to play a role in rebuilding America’s economy,” said Leonard A. Bedell, president and CEO of Mobil Steel International, Inc. “As a business, we are blessed to work in the Houston community and the United States where we can help build a robust economy. Our employees find steel fabrication a fulfilling job.”
Structural Steel Design is Environmentally Friendly
According to AISC, as concerns over the economy linger, building professionals want to reduce risk and control costs more than ever. Increasingly they also need to be sensitive to the environmental impacts of their projects. SteelDay 2010 showed that building with structural steel is a very effective strategy toward meeting these goals and ensures a successful project is delivered on time and on budget. SteelDay provided an appreciation for what goes into structural steel design – and the steel industry’s efforts to recycle and be environmentally friendly.
