HOUSTON (March 18, 2015) – Mobil Steel International, Inc. President and CEO, Leonard A. Bedell, helped share the positive message of a chemical industry renaissance in Texas and heard Texas Governor Greg Abbott salute the industry’s economic leadership during Texas Chemicals Day held in Austin on February 25, 2015. Chemicals Day was hosted by the Association of Chemical Industry of Texas and the Texas Chemical Council.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott served as the keynote speaker for the event. Along with discussing his plan for leading Texas, Abbott praised the chemical industry and the companies that partner with it for helping Texas become an economic leader. Abbott received a strong ovation when discussing the importance of industry in creating jobs and economic opportunity, and pledging his support to streamline permitting for new plants.

“Governor Abbott has a strong understanding of our industry and the issues that we face,” said Bedell. “His leadership and support is a great benefit to Mobil Steel and our industry partners.”

Industry delivers products and positive message to Texas Legislators

Prior to the Governor’s remarks, State Senator Kelly Hancock encouraged the CEOs, plant managers and engineers to directly communicate to legislative members the value of the industry and describe how the chemical industry’s products are used in everyday life. Chemicals Day attendees heeded that advice, delivering samples of consumer products made from the Texas Chemical Council members’ processes to legislators. The chemical industry attendees also delivered a strong message of industry value and discussed issues facing their industry during office visits with Texas legislators. Fair and consistent regulation on permitting, taxes, and safety were among issues brought to lawmakers attention.
